We use the 2015-2017 China Household Finance Survey (CHFS) data to empirically analyze the impact of urban residents' basic endowment insurance on urban household consumption. The results of the measurement model show that, other things being equal, the total annual consumption expenditure of insured households is about 8.7% higher than that of non-insured households. Judging from the estimated results of each item of expenditure, the increase in consumption of insured households is mainly due to the increase in daily consumption expenditure, followed by education consumption. It can be seen from this that families tend to meet basic needs first, followed by spiritual and cultural needs.
