As women age, their youthful vitality gradually declines. Upon entering middle age, women must confront the physiological changes and psychological impacts brought about by aging, in addition to the various responsibilities and obligations arising from work, family, and society. These factors may contribute to stress, anxiety, and other emotional issues, leading to an imbalance in physical and mental well-being, thereby increasing the risk of disease. This study investigates the effects of an 8-week intervention involving specific meridian conditioning, including massage, Gua Sha, and cupping, on the meridian energy and autonomic nervous system of middle-aged women. The study was applied with a randomized parallel experimental design. The participants were randomly divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group, each consisting of 12 participants. The experimental group received an 8-week meridian conditioning intervention, with a single 50-minute session conducted at a fixed time each week. Meridian energy measurements were taken before and after the intervention in weeks 1, 4, and 8 using Ryodoraku analysis. Additionally, the autonomic nervous system activity was analyzed before and after the intervention in weeks 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8. The control group did not receive any treatment but measure the meridian energy and autonomic nervous system with the same time conditions. The results indicated significant differences in part of meridian energy levels following the 8-week intervention. In terms of heart rate variability, there was a significant improvement in both intra-group and inter-group measurements from the sixth week of the intervention. Therefore, the meridian conditioning methods used in this study have physiological regulatory benefits on meridian energy balance and autonomic nervous activity in middle-aged women. These findings suggest that such treatments could be applied for physical healthcare and health promotion in middle-aged women.
