A 10-month-old infant had a history of multiple episodes of acute bronchiolitis complicated by bacterial infections and acute sinusitis, necessitating recurrent antibiotic treatments. This visit to the traditional Chinese medicine pediatric clinic was primarily due to an infection with the novel coronavirus, presented with respiratory tract symptoms such as coughing with wheezing, rhinorrhea, and diarrhea. Compared to the common cold, children infected with the coronavirus may also experience loss of smell and taste, rashes, or other gastrointestinal manifestations in addition to respiratory tract symptoms. This case primarily explored the effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine treatment and disease progression in infant who had suffered recurrent respiratory tract infections and subsequently developed COVID-19, with underlying damage to the qi of the spleen and lung. The initial treatment focused on alleviating the acute symptoms of COVID-19. Once the acute phase was cured, the approach addressed the underlying qi deficiency of the lungs and spleen caused by previous recurrent respiratory tract infections.
