In recent discussions about how Christian acquire their prophethood, evident is the pneumatological tendency that scholars commonly ascribe their becoming of prophets to the Holy Spirit. Invoking the Irenaean metaphor that the Word and the Spirit are the two hands of the Father, this article probes into the question what role does the Word play in the acquisition process. This article approaches the question beginning from a philosophical perspective by tapping into the philosophy of Paul Ricoeur to search for resources to discover the role of the Word in the process, enriching our theological understanding. Eventually, it proposes thesis of the study holds that the Word issues a call a prophetic call to Christians and endows them with prophetic identity. This study demonstrates that Ricoeur understands that prophetic calls are issued from the written Word. With his hermeneutical philosophy, Ricoeur theorises the process with threefold mimesis and reading theory.
