This paper deals with the great master Xingyun's mission and its influence in Malaysia during 1980's. In those years, the master frequented there where he also made friends with quite a number of Buddhist monastics. Prior to that, his book the Biography of Śakyamuni was already well read by the local Buddhists. In addition, the visit made in 1997 by eight Malaysian young Buddhists was received in the Foguang Shan with great hospitality. All these causes conduced to the success of Foguang Shan's establishment and development in Malaysia. Of course, the Foguang Shan's well reception by the Malaysian Buddhists was also due to the way how the Great Master promoted Buddhism. During the ten years, the Master not only set up a solid foundation for the development of Humanistic Buddhism, but also started a fever of studying Buddhism among the locals. Eventually, the first Foguang Shan centre was established in 1989 and it has become an important base for promulgating Humanistic Buddhism.
