Student suicide rates in Japan have seen a concerning rise, prompting the implementation of various preventive education programs. This paper reviews the landscape of suicide prevention education in Japan, focusing on two main programs: "suicide prevention education" and "education on how to send an SOS (Signs of Saving-Our-Souls)." Among these, the GRIP (Gradual approach, Resilience, In a school setting and Prepare scaffolding) program, characterized by its gradual approach and emphasis on resilience, stands out. Despite these efforts, connecting at-risk students to professional care remains a challenge due to barriers such as resistance to assistance and difficulties in parental cooperation.
