Mean annual flow is commonly used as an index in both regional frequency and flow duration analyses which are useful tools for the design flow in water resource projects at ungauged area. To provide the estimating method for mean annual flow at ungauged area, the relationship between mean annual flow and physiographic factors is studied by using 14 catchments of Li-Wu River. Based on the principal component analysis, five important factors (basin area, mean elevation, mean slope of surface, river density, and stream frequency) are efficiently abstracted from 13 physiographic factors. It is found that the regression has a high correlation coefficient between mean annual flow and five physiographic factors, and a significant correlation exists according to the F-test.
