Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) in Calcanodynia patients. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of clinical data collected from 97 patients with calcanodynia in Kiang Wu hospital rehabilitation outpatient clinic. Ninety-seven patients were randomly divided into two groups: ESWT group (n=59) and Short wave diathermy (SWD) group (n=38). Each group received 3 treatment sessions. Each ESWT session consisted of 3 ESWT treatments each week and each SWD session consisted of 5 SWD treatments each week. The outcome was measured by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) just before and 30 days after intervention. Results: Thirty days after intervention, the two groups showed significant improvement in VAS (p<0.05). ESWT group showed better outcomes than SWD group. Conclusion: ESWT is an effective treatment for calcanodynia with better outcomes than SWD.
