Immersive Virtual Reality (IVR) utilizes its sensory immersion, navigation, and manipulation technology features to not only support learners' contextual and promote learning embodied cognition but also enhance affective experience, thereby IVR has great potential to help learners realize knowledge transfer. However, there were few empirical studies on the effect of IVR on the knowledge transfer. What's more, the existing studies only explored the impact of IVR on the knowledge transfer of learners from the perspective of effect, which couldn't deeply reflect the real effect of IVR on the knowledge transfer. To this end, this study used the IVR experiment of "exploring the current law of series circuit", adopted the quasi-experimental research method to innovatively explore the impact of IVR on the transfer of learners' conceptual and procedural knowledge from the perspectives of effectiveness and efficiency. The study found: (1) Compared with video-based learning, IVR can significantly improve the transfer effectiveness of learners' conceptual knowledge, but not their transfer efficiency; (2) IVR can significantly improve both transfer effectiveness and efficiency of learners' procedural knowledge; (3) IVR can significantly improve learners' affective experience in the learning process, including self-efficacy, internal motivation and learning satisfaction, and the more positive the affective experience, the better it is to promote knowledge transfer. The above research findings will provide a specific reference for the promotion and application of IVR to promote learners' knowledge transfer.
