摘要
由于历史因素，马来西亚成为东南亚国家唯一由多元种族组成的国家。马来民族最早游牧于这一片国土在先，再加上早期中国人被“卖猪仔”南来恳荒，印度人则前来园丘工作等等因素，导致这个独立仅有五十年的国家的传媒生态形成多元文化、多元语文等百花争放局面，中文日报、英文日报、马来文日报在这一片国土上的传播业中各放异彩。虽然是同一国家的人民，但却冈为历史因素、种族政治等等因素，各语文日报的办报方针、新闻选材、营运策略都不尽相同。一份报纸的日常销量，尤其是散户读者，通常取决有关报纸当天的封面新闻，而封面新闻的取舍往往可以反映一份报纸的主要办报方针、文化族群、政治立场的另一面。本文尝试从两份马来西亚发行量最高的中文日报《星洲日报》以及英文日报《星报》的封面新闻选才中，探讨中英日报的办报策略、选材因素、受众对象的差异性，以致所衍生不同的思想。

Malaysia is a unique country in South-east Asia due to its multi-racial and multi-cultural composition of its citizens. Due to her historical, cultural and political background, there are many newspapers in different languages that cater to the needs of the different ethnic groups in Malaysia. Apart from language differences, the vernacular and mainstream newspapers appear to have different practices when it comes to the selection of stories, in particular the front page news. This paper identifies the differences in the front page news of a Chinese language daily-Sin Chew Daily and an English language daily-The Star over a period of one week.
