前景化理论视域下埃兹拉.庞德对中国古诗的译介研究-以“Song of the Bowmen of Shu”为例

A Study on Ezra Pound's Translation of Chinese Classical Poetries in the Light of Foregrounding Theory - Illustrated with Examples from the Translation of 'Song of the Bowmen of Shu'

Ezra Pound's translation paved a way for Chinese classical poetries' entry into the western world. It is meaningful to study his translation theory as well as his translation strategy for they can guide the translation of Chinese classical poetry in the future. In the light of foregrounding theory, this paper describes the similarities and differences of linguistic features of the original and translated texts via a contrastive analysis of "Song of the Bowmen of Shu" and its English translation, especially the features of phonology, lexis and syntax. The study found that first, the translation catches the most important features of the original text. Second, the style of English translation is consistent with modernist poetry. Third, due to the different language rules of English and Chinese, the foregrounding features should be adjusted to the rules of target language when translating. Last, the translation shows Pound's cognitive understanding of Chinese poetry.
