Evolution, Motivation and Reflection: The Meaning Generation of the Chinese Images in Oscar Films

Oscar films are the vanguards of American culture. Studying the Chinese images in them is helpful to grasp the attitude of American society towards China and the cultural intention behind it. Chinese images have undergone the evolution from "ancient oriental country" to "backward China", "swing China" and then to "multiple neighboring countries", and the overall depictions is a spectacle society of "multiplicity" and "enchantment". Oscar films as global ticket office blockbusters and the "two Americans" have led to the formation of this image, and the cultural power of American films has been interpreting Chinese culture according to its own value system. As a result, the "glocalization" of Chinese images represent the West trying to manipulate the imaginations of the East, and also brings the confusion and reflection on Chinese identity.
