It aims to interpret the concept texture of the "secular heroes" in Gu Long's wuxia novels, examining how they transcend the "new school" of wuxia fiction and bring about a qualitative transformation in the narrative tradition of modern wuxia novels, which has been prevalent since Jin Yong. This qualitative transformation is evident in Gu Long's departure from the conventional narrative formula of the "hero's journey" typical of wuxia novels. By breaking away from the established narrative tradition and the conventional understanding of the wuxia world, Gu Long projects the psychological state and life imagination of urbanites in modern Taiwanese society, particularly in Taipei. It reflects the modern self-concept and the influence of contemporary social and cultural structures. This is especially significant in the context of Taipei's urban and modern social milieu from the late 1960s to the 1970s.
