This study explores the application and effects of Adlerian encouragement techniques in assisting college students with depression due to romantic setbacks through a case analysis. The background highlights that college students often experience self-denial and emotional distress when facing setbacks in romantic relationships, which may lead to long-term depressive tendencies. Adlerian encouragement techniques, as a method of intervention that respects individuals, is practical and hope-oriented, can effectively enhance individuals' self-efficacy and psychological resilience. Through the specific counseling process of a case, this study demonstrates the application of encouragement techniques in emotional support, cognitive restructuring, future orientation, and action activation, and evaluates the intervention effects from three dimensions: emotions, cognition, and behavior. The results show that after counseling with encouragement techniques, the case experienced significant emotional improvement, more positive self-cognition, and healthier behavioral performance. The study also proposes suggestions for the application of Adlerian encouragement techniques in campus psychological counseling and prospects for future research directions, emphasizing the importance of combining cultural backgrounds and long-term tracking studies to further enrich the application strategies of this technique in different cultural and social contexts.
