There are two most widely supported claims to the location of Koh Lay Hwan's ancestral home in the current literature, namely Gucuo Village in Huian County of Quanzhou City and Guzhai Village in Xiang'an District of Xiamen City. Other speculated locations include Jinjiang City, Xiamen City, Puwei Village of Xiang'an District and Haicheng County. Of all the locations listed, the case of Guzhai Village offers the most extensive reference materials for research. Investigations into the names of places in Tong'an County from the past to the present, gravestone inscriptions in Haicang District, fieldwork findings in Baijiao Village, historical records of the Koh family in Penang, together with supporting evidence presented by other claims pointing towards Tong'an and Haicheng lead this paper to deduce that Baijiao Village, originally belonged to Tong'an County of Quanzhou Prefecture and now belongs to Longhai District of Zhangzhou City is the correct location of Koh Lay Hwan's ancestral home.
