本文尝试梳理自林建国〈为什么马华文学〉发表以来这二十多年间我们关于马华文学解释上的争议。回到〈为什么马华文学〉，再一路往下走，去探勘各自不同的主体位置、对马华文学的想象、援引的不同的理论资源，对马华文学未来的不同态度、理论与实践之间的辩证等，尝试厘清真正的分歧到底出在哪里，与及该分歧的文学史意义。

This paper will focus on the controversies of the interpretation regarding the "Malaysian Chinese Literature" (Mahua Literature) since the publishing of the "Why Malaysian Chinese Literature" by Kien Ket Lim over twenty years ago. This paper will probe into "Why Malaysian Chinese Literature" in order to examine the divergence of interpretation on the Mahua literature and its significance, through different aspects, such as the subject position, imagination of Mahua Literature, theories cited, attitude towards the future of Mahua Literature, dialectics between theories and practices respectively.
