Clinical Applications of Platelet-rich Fibrin (PRF) on Guided Bone Regeneration: Three Case Reports

摘要

Objective: Since platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) was introduced to the dental field in 2006, it has gained in popularity in different clinical dental applications. PRF has been used for periodontal intrabony and furcation defect regeneration, root coverage, and guided bone regeneration (GBR) in extracted socket, maxillary sinus, or edentulous ridge defects. The objective of the present case reports is to present three different approaches for clinical applications of PRF with GBR. Materials and methods: Three different cases that required primarily horizontal ridge augmentation prior to proper implant placement are presented. In Case 1, PRF was used as a barrier membrane, case 2 used PRF filler pieces as a graft material, and in case 3 injectable PRF was used to hydrate the bone graft. Furthermore, in all of the presented cases PRF was utilized as a primary source of multiple growth factors to enhance regeneration. Conclusion: The present case reports demonstrated three different clinical applications of PRF to enhance guided bone regeneration, as PRF is a growth factors-rich source.
