An Overview of Obturators in Prosthodontics: Classification, Design, and Clinical Applications

摘要

Maxillectomy patients present many obstacles throughout their rehabilitation, mostly related to the difficulty of providing appropriate retention, stability, and support through prosthetic treatment. The degree of impairment and prosthetic rehabilitation complexity is largely determined by the location and size of the lesion. Individualized therapeutic strategies are crucial due to the distinctive characteristics of every patient and defect. Prosthodontists must therefore have access to a wide variety of design alternatives and techniques to properly address the problem and reduce patient suffering. In the end, this improves the efficacy and satisfaction of obturator therapy by guaranteeing that treatment regimens are tailored to each patient's unique needs.
