Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy: Principle & Modern Practices in Endodontics

摘要

Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy (CLSM) provides us with 3D images that are marked with fluorescent dyes of biological tissues and cells including their dynamic processes as well as co-localization of protein expression models. CLSM uses a LASER beam that acts as a source light & an electronic system that processes the image formed in it. The major advantage of CLSM is optical sectional capabilities, resolution & versatility that is why it continues to be preferred over other optical techniques for more specific applications. Significant improvements have been made to all areas of the confocal approach, not only to the instruments themselves, but also to the methodology of specimen preparation, the analysis methodology, the displaying, sharing and processing of confocal images using digital techniques. The current paper highlights the review of operation or working principle, benefits & risks, importance and usage in endodontics and the future prospects.
