The newly excavated epitaph of Gao Weizheng, a grandson of General Gao Huaide, reveals that the eminent Gao Family, consisting of military officers and imperial-in-laws in early Northern Song, had been in decline since its third generation. None of the offspring of Gao Huaide achieved notable accomplishments or gained political prominence thereafter. Some of Gao's descendants even shifted their careers to be civil officials. Various Qing fictions and dramas forged young heroes like Gao Junbao and Gao Chong, falsely claiming them to be his son or descendant. The authenticity of these two figures and other alleged descendants of Gao Huaide, which appeared in several Gao genealogies compiled during Qing Dynasty, is highly questionable.
