Multi-Contract Certificate Handling in ISO 15118-20 Standard

In recent years, with the global proliferation of electric vehicles (EVs),the issue of EV charging has gradually become a focal point of public attention. To effectively utilize energy consumption and ensure the security of information transmission, EVs and electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) must exchange specific information before, during, and after the charging process. This information contributes to the sta bility of the power grid, the compatibility of different charging methods, the safety of the charging process, and provides a better charging experience for EV users. Consequently, numerous charging communication standards have emerged, such as DIN70121, CHAdeMO, and ISO 15118. In this work, We investigate how ISO15118-20 handles authentication and data security and integrity verification of electric vehicles (EVs) through contract certificates during the charging communication process. In con ducting charging services, using certificates for authentication and authorization is a necessary step for Plug and Charge. We enable the EV to send its certificate to the charging provider to verify the identity of the EV. In previous charging standards, an EV would only possess a single certificate. However, in ISO 15118-20, the functionality of multiple certificates is introduced, thereby providing greater flexibility in different scenarios or environments.
