In recent years, there has been a notable rise in interest concerning the adoption of smart contracts into the operational frameworks of modern digital platforms. These platforms, acting as vital intermediaries in diverse online transactions and interactions, are increasingly examining the potential advantages and hurdles linked with the adoption of smart contract technology. Smart contracts, driven by blockchain technology, present a decentralized and automated approach to executing and enforcing contractual agreements, thereby transforming conventional business procedures. The integration of (blockchain technology)smart contracts into digital platform business models brings forth a range of opportunities, challenges, and advantages. Grasping these intricacies is crucial for platform developers, stakeholders, and researchers alike. This thesis endeavors to delve into the adoption of smart contracts within contemporary digital platform business models, providing a thorough examination of the opportunities, challenges, and benefits associated with this integration. Also, this thesis will investigate the development of decentralized applications (DApps) that run on the blockchain-enable platforms such as Ethereum. DApp is a type of distributed, open-source software application that runs on a blockchain network. Essentially, DApps exhibit resemblances to traditional web or mobile apps. The underlying fundamental back-up architecture is decentralization and smart contracts. This study enables us to also understand the development and growth at the user-interface layer.
