從使用者角度探討國語文線上辭典之介面及架構──以新北市J高中為例

Exploring the Interface and Structure of the Online Mandarin Chinese Dictionaries from the User’s Perspective ─ A Case of J High School in New Taipei City

摘要


本研究從使用者角度探討《重編國語辭典修訂本》、《國語辭典簡編本》與《萌典》三部線上辭典的介面設計與架構,旨在了解高中生使用這些辭典的情境、需求及偏好,並提出改進建議。本研究以新北市J高中高一學生為對象,探索以下問題:(1)高中生查詢三部辭典的情況為何?(2)高中生認為哪一部辭典最符合自身需求,原因為何?(3)易於高中生使用的線上辭典在架構與介面上應具備哪些設計要素?   研究工具為符合高中生學習情境之10項可用性測試任務,其設計與評估標準參考彭致翎「線上辭典使用者介面分析架構」,並於任務後進行半結構式訪談。研究參與者為8名J高中112學年度高一學生,研究者蒐集參與者運用iPad進行可用性測試任務期間放聲思考及屏幕同步錄音錄影、訪談錄音等質性資料,轉化為逐字稿並以概念標籤化,探究其遭遇的可用性問題,歸納為介面設計、易用性、導覽功能及使用者支持等構面後進行評估比較。   研究結果顯示,《重編本》因內容豐富及檢索功能多樣,最受高中生青睞,其「基本檢索」操作簡便有效,能滿足高中生查詢需求。然而專業術語解釋不足,影響檢索效率。《簡編本》介面直觀、適合初學者,但收錄內容有限,難以全面支持高中生學習。《萌典》則以簡潔介面與自動完成功能受到肯定,但缺乏詳細輔助說明及分類檢索,使用者在進行複雜查詢時感到困難。高中生偏好簡單、直觀且功能一目了然的辭典設計,合乎高中生期待的線上辭典應涵蓋其學習階段知識內容,支持多樣檢索方式,選項互動性須符合現今網路時代使用者習慣,同時應確保不同載具介面的使用體驗一致。   本研究提供使用者需求導向的設計建議,《重編本》及《簡編本》無App版本,亦可作為未來專家學者進行相關行動載具介面產品設計開發的實務參考,以及教育工作者引導學生使用辭典的教學依據。辭典領域中同類型研究較少,建議未來學者持續以使用者為著眼點,或可延伸至不同年齡層、不同研究場域的使用者進行探究,參考本研究可用性評估流程,輔以更精確的研究工具,持續為線上辭典或同類型的學習工具書提出改進意見。

This study examines the interface and structure of three online Mandarin Chinese dictionaries—Revised Mandarin Chinese Dictionary, Concised Mandarin Chinese Dictionary, and Moe Dictionary—from the perspective of high school students. The aim is to understand their usage scenarios, needs, and preferences, and to provide recommendations for improvement. Online dictionaries are essential tools for high school students learning Chinese. Differences in interface design and functionality may significantly impact user experience and learning outcomes. The study focuses on first-year students at J High School in New Taipei City and seeks to answer the following questions: (1) How do students use these three dictionaries for queries? (2) Which dictionary best meets their needs, and why? (3) What structural and interface design elements make an online dictionary suitable for high school students to use? The research tools included ten usability test tasks designed to align with the learning scenarios of high school students. These tasks were developed based on Chih-Ling Peng' s “Online Dictionary Human-computer Interface Design Assessment Framework”. Following the tasks, semi-structured interviews were conducted. The participants were eight first-year students at J High School during the 112th academic year. Data were collected through think-aloud protocols, screen recordings, and audio recordings of interviews during the usability tests conducted on iPads. The qualitative data were transcribed and coded to identify usability issues, which were categorized into interface design, usability, navigation function, and user support for evaluation and comparison. The results indicate that Revised Mandarin Chinese Dictionary was the most favored due to its rich content and various search functions. Its “basic search” was straightforward and effective, meeting the learning needs of high school students. However, lacking in explanations of technical terms limited the search efficiency for some users. Concised Mandarin Chinese Dictionary offered a user-friendly interface suitable for beginners but lacked sufficient content to fully support high school-level learning. Moe Dictionary, praised for its minimalist design and auto-complete feature, was found less effective for complex searches due to its lack of detailed guidance and categorization options. Students preferred dictionaries with simple, intuitive designs and clear functionalities. An ideal online dictionary should align with the knowledge requirements of high school students, support diverse search methods, ensure interactive options meet modern web usage habits, and maintain consistent user experience across devices. This study offers user-centered design recommendations. Since Revised Mandarin Chinese Dictionary and Concised Mandarin Chinese Dictionary currently lack App versions, the findings can serve as practical references for experts and researchers in developing mobile-friendly interfaces. Additionally, this study can support educators in guiding students to use dictionaries effectively in their learning. Given the limited research in this field, future studies are encouraged to maintain a user-focused approach, exploring various age groups or usage scenarios. By refining research tools and building on the usability evaluation process outlined in this study, scholars can continue to provide valuable suggestions for improving online dictionaries and similar educational reference tools.
