The book The Romance of the Three Kingdoms created many popular plots and characters, and its influence is the most significant among the four masterworks of Chinese literature. However, regardless of how The Romance of the Three Kingdoms is interpreted, its ideological value cannot be overlooked, with one of the most important values being "morality." The Romance of the Three Kingdoms substitutes the Kingdom of Wei, which is considered orthodox in official history, with the Kingdom of Shu, and emphasizes Shu's "loyalty" and "righteousness." Additionally, because some plots are drawn from folklore, the concept of "morality" in the book presents multiple facets and makes it more relatable to readers, such as "brotherhood morality" and "chivalrous morality." As a result, there are different perspectives that need to be explored in depth. This also leads to conflicts between different moral concepts. Therefore, the novel is rich in value conflicts such as "morality" and "profit" and "great morality" and "private morality," which are integral to the construction of the work's overall ideological concepts and are worthy of in-depth study. This thesis will explore the concept of "morality" in The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, starting with an analysis of the novel's characters and plots. It will further examine the overall structure of morality within the novel and interpret the writing's themes and values from the perspective of "morality".
