The contemporary global energy marketplace is in the midst of a pivotal transformation. Traditional, centralized modalities of energy trade are contending with formidable adversities, including the exorbitant outlays requisite for the establishment and sustenance of centralized databanks, the grave ramifications of data infringement, and the intricacies entailed in the protection of consumer confidentiality. Within this milieu, there is a burgeoning inclination among nations to pivot towards blockchain technology as a panacea for these impediments, with a pronounced focus on the domain of carbon emissions commerce. Nonetheless, the extant carbon trading infrastructure in Taiwan is predicated on conventional transactional frameworks, thereby rendering the seamless assimilation of blockchain into Taiwan's extant trading edifice a matter of acute commercial imperative. This study consolidates blockchain-related literature to analyze the actual usage of blockchain applications globally. Through an in-depth analysis of these systems' components, coupled with expert interviews, the feasibility of integrating blockchain technology with carbon trading was examined. Based on the initial interview results and literature review, a prototype blockchain-based carbon trading system was designed. After the system was built, a second round of expert interviews was conducted to gather feedback on the system's usability and to compile design principles and improvement suggestions for the prototype. This provides a feasible reference for the next generation of system design. Additionally, this study offers a feasibility analysis of integrating blockchain technology with carbon trading and provides recommendations for the design process of carbon trading systems to inform future government policy in Taiwan.
