Though most of mobile phone designed for two-handed operation, however users prefer one-handed operation in many occasions. - Among those one-handed tasks, typing is one of the most difficult jobs. This study intended to design a touch keyboard that provides the users with less effort requirement when typing. The "minor sector keyboard" was design for easy reach by the thumb. All keys were located within the “hot zone” of thumb movement. "Hot Zone" is an easy reach area on screen by thumb defined by Steven Hoober (2013). In addition, by employing notion of multifunctional keypad, fewer key numbers provide better dimension for key size which meet the requirement of thumb touch. The experiment indicated that the "minor sector keyboard" appeared to be less efficient on the first attempt, comparing with that of two-handed operation using QWERT touch keyboard. However, its usability over time (learnability) is considerably acceptable while users improved their operation after a few practice. Minor sector touch keyboard can be an alternative for one-handed operation on mobile phone.
