The thesis discusses the design and implementation of bridged-LAN performancemanagement system. The system adopts a hierarchical network management structure that consists of one Central Manager and multiple distributed.Local Centers. The Central Manager retrieves management information from theLocal Centers using SNMP. The Local Center collects and summarizes performance information and provides user interface to display workload characteristicsabout a network segment. The Central Manager is able to automatically resolvebridged-LAN topology, display reactive and proactive performance information, and provide workgroup tool which suggests how to deduce inter- segment trafficand uses genetic algorithm to solve network saturation problem.
