The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of core conditioning during physical education warm-ups on trunk muscular endurance, movement ability, balance, landing stabilization and flexibility in school-aged children. Fifty-two healthy school-aged children were cluster randomized assigned to core conditioning groups (DCE, n=27, age:10.48 ± 0.51) and the general warm-up exercise group (GWE, n=25, age: 10.36 ± 0.49). Each group performed their specific 10 minutes warm-up routine twice a week for 6 weeks during the start of the physical education classes. All variables were found to significantly improve (all P<0.05) in the DCE group than the GWE group (dynamic curl-up: 56.4%, static curl-up: 105.6%, low plank: 83.6%, lateral plank: 86.9%, function movement screen: 17.9%, balance: -34.7%, landing stabilization: -23.2% and flexibility: 10.2%). Compare to GWE group, DCE group had significant in change differences from baseline to post intervention in all tests (dynamic curl-up: 8.44 times > 3.04 times, static curl-up: 96.7 s > -67 s, low plank: 75.67 s > -26.76 s, lateral plank: 25.81 s > 19.56 s, function movement screen: 2.37 scores > 1.56 scores, balance: -1.30 scores > -0.24 scores, landing stabilization: -1.85 scores > -1.82 scores and flexibility: 2.85 cm > -1.92 cm ). According to the results, core conditioning improves on trunk muscular endurance, movement ability, balance, landing stabilization and flexibility in school-aged children; thus, we recommended it to as an effective warm-up in physical education class.
