Floating Islands with Daily’s Splinters

The Island in my works - “ Floating Islands with daily’s splinters” represents my visual experiences and past memories. It has three significant meanings for me. One of them symbolizes the island where I was born and surrounded by the sea - Taiwan. Second, it’s the travel experiences when I had the opportunity of universities exchange program to Japan. Third, it represents the imaginary island of loneliness. During the period I traveled around in Japan, I spent a lot of time on the transportation. The only changing elements on the trains were the landscape outside of the windows. Gazing out of the windows through the flowing scenery, I fell into a absentmindedly state; and, the term of “daily’s splinters”(日常欠片) comes from this state. “Kakera” (欠片) is a Japanese term, which means “splinter fragment”. And, daily splinters(日常欠片) represent my parts of life experiences in imagery transforming. It could be the transformed pieces from my memories or maybe one of my dreams. While I manipulate the printing process, those splinters become the framework of landscape collage in my works.
