The purpose of this study is to recommend useful strategies to improve musical dyslexia for piano beginners. These suggestions based on literature reviews and analyses from two piano courses for adults using sight-reading perspective would encourage them to boost their confidence and would increase their interest in playing piano. The study adapted Bastien's and Alfred's piano courses book number one as samples. It used non-experimental comparison and content analysis to compare preliminary knowledge, harmony concept and identification of note pitch, value and rhythm between the two piano courses. The following main results would benefit a piano teacher and anyone who would like to create piano books. 1.Both courses emphasize on the mapping of “notes” and “keyboard” with illustrations to increase student's reading speed. 2.Both courses introduce the identification of note pitch using five-finger positions, such as the C, G and F. 3.Besides practice pieces, both piano courses provide a lot of exercises on identifying the note's name known as “cloze test”. 4.By identifying the musical interval, it enhances the sight-reading ability of the beginners. 5.Both piano courses are systematic and logical in course content design. After consulting reliable references, the researcher came up with the “iconic memory” teaching method of identifying note pitch on piano staff which is introduced in chapter five. Due to having few piano sight-reading books for adult beginners in Taiwan, the researcher hopes to create a sight-reading piano course in the future. This is to promote the musical learning of piano as something that is easy, enjoyable and entertaining at the same time.
