Rich in cultural, heritage and tourist resources, Longtan District of Taoyuan City is populated primarily by Hakka people and is known for its red soil and rainy climate, making it ideal for growing tea leaves and an important tea growing region in northern Taiwan. For hundreds of years, tea has contributed immensely to Longtan’s economic growth and created deep connections among people. However, due to urban development, the once booming and profitable tea industry is falling. This study explores the local culture of Longtan and the history and origin of Hakka people through a field survey to find the connection between traditional Hakka culture and the tea industry. By discovering Hakka elements and regional characteristics, we created the brand TamLake especially for Longtan, which incorporates local craftsmanship such as bamboo, ceramics, paper and indigo dyeing art in tea packaging and other tea desserts. TamLake gives new life to Longtan and offers a new souvenir for people to choose from while boosting relative industries.
