Abstract This paper investigates the spatial aesthetics and narrative power of urban landmark hotels, aiming to understand how interior design can amplify their cultural symbolism. The study begins with a review of relevant literature, defining historical landmark hotels and examining their contributions to urban culture and history. It then analyzes specific examples from Japan, the United States, China, and Taiwan: the Imperial Hotel Tokyo, the Blackstone Hotel Chicago, the Peace Hotel Shanghai, and the Grand Hotel Taipei. The analysis focuses on how their architecture and interior design incorporate culturally significant historical elements. Additionally, the paper explores how these hotels’ interior design elements and aesthetics align with their market positioning to provide guests with unique narrative and cultural experiences, thereby enhancing their economic performance. Using a case study methodology, this research examines the spatial layout, decoration, art, and materials used in the four hotels, detailing how spatial design and furnishings convey historical narratives to enhance the hotels’ symbolic significance and appeal. The study finds that the interior design of historical narrative hotels must not only embody symbols with cultural and historical backgrounds but also integrate modern design elements. This can involve restoring original designs or reinterpreting spaces to blend furnishings into the interior ambiance, creating a cross-cultural visual language. This approach not only meets modern customers’ aesthetic preferences but also restores the intent of historical space design, exceeding guests' expectations while successfully preserving the hotel's historical legacy and showcasing local cultural features to international tourists. In conclusion, this study emphasizes the critical role of spatial aesthetics in shaping and maintaining landmark and historical narrative hotels as cultural symbols. Through effective design and marketing strategies, hotels can use their internal spaces to tell stories related to urban history and culture, thereby enhancing their appeal and market competitiveness as city landmarks.
