台灣學術網路與各級學校資訊環境,組成台灣的教育資訊基礎架構,各縣市教育網路中心肩負該縣市的國中、小資訊環境建置與維護業務。基於這個資訊基礎架構,我們以開放原始碼進行開發,在易於維護使用、無須額外增加硬體的前提下,以作業系統原生的虛擬磁碟進行分層管理。經過效能測試,在磁碟效能與整體系統架構間求取平衡,發展桌面環境還原功能的多重開機虛擬磁碟分層管理系統,去中心化彈性部署,系統並可檢測網路環境。此系統特別針對中小學特性開發,能有效協助基層資訊教育工作者,管理維護x86架構的桌上型及筆記型電腦設備,在同一台桌面環境提供包括Windows、Linux及Android-x86等多重作業系統及教學軟體,以因應資訊電腦課程教學、分組、行動學習等不同教學模式及教學現場需求,可單機複製、彈性大量部署縣市巨量規模資訊環境維運。以數個應用於教育現場的實際案例說明其優點,尤其是缺乏維護設備人力與資源的偏鄉小型學校。藉此系統,可以降低資訊教師日常教學準備負擔,同時兼具低成本、高效能且易於使用的優點。本系統已在台灣推廣至六個縣市中小學教育單位全面採用,安裝於數萬台桌面裝置。
Nowadays, many application services have been gradually migrated from the desktop to the cloud, but we still need a desktop environment to operate diverse applications. Privacy, security, geography, and legacy issues such as the inability to migrate traditional applications, desktop maintenance remains an unavoidable task for cloud-based information infrastructures. Based on the environment of Educational Infrastructure Taiwan Academic Network (TANet), we proposed a simple, open source, and low-cost digital campus management solution that integrates network probes and virtual disk layering originated from native OS functions to achieve flexible desktop deployments. The solution virtualizes different versions of pre-configured Windows and Linux-based OS, even x86-based Android OS, and application environments can be virtualized as disk layering images on hypervisor computers. Based on UDPcast multicasting from one to many client desktops, a decentralized virtualization infrastructure for desktops, cloud nodes or server farm is proposed and named as Kazilla. Kazilla is evaluated and benchmarked according to the performance of several kinds of OS virtualization file formats with layering differentiates. Kazilla is developed for the digital campus, network testing, and facilitates teachers to prepare computer resources for teaching purposes, grouping studies and mobile learning with low IT training effort and budget cost. Benchmark and evaluation exemplify the ability of Kazilla. Currently, Kazilla was applied to six Taiwan county-based network centers that deployed tens thousands of desktops.
