摘要


要學習一個語言, 最好的教材莫過於母語人士日常使用的真實語言材料(Authentic Materials), 如何將其整合至教學中一直都是研究的焦點. 隨著 YouTube 在 WWW(World Wide Web) 大為風行, 所謂的真實語言材料可說是源源不絕. 但作為教學使用卻仍有些問題有待克服. 本論文提出一個可利用線上影片字幕來輔助語言學習的觀念與 架構,並實作了一個名叫 "YouCaption” 的系統雛形,將 YouTube上大量的影片資源,轉換為語言學習的有效教材。 此 一系統利用受歡迎的YouTube影片內容,讓教師和學習者輕易地編寫並分享影片字幕,更可進一步製作互動教材。系統的特色包括:教材製作、中英 文翻譯、題庫編輯、及學生成績登錄。在初步使用者測試的結果中, 我們發現不論在課室中或個人學習上,系統皆能有效地幫助學習者增進英語 聽力及語言理解能力。

As language learning methodologies continue to focus on the usage of authentic materials, teachers and learners alike are turning to the web as a key resource for engaging and up-to-date content. This thesis proposes a web-based captioning system, called “YouCaption”, designed to access and utilize the vast store of YouTube videos. This system has been developed to take advantage of the popularity of YouTube video content to help language learners and teachers create and share captions or subtitles, as well as the ability to format interactive text. Unique features of the system include text formatting, on-demand translation between English and Traditional Chinese, creating and tracking interactive quiz data directly through the system, and the ability to display finished files outside of the system. It is suggested that this system can be used as an effective resource in both classroom and independent language learning settings to help learners improve their listening and comprehension abilities.
