臺灣的妖怪傳說曾長期被視為迷信,幾乎從人們記憶中消失,多年以來臺灣人對妖怪文化的印象主要受中國和日本影響,對本土妖怪傳說反而生疏。隨著近年本土文化產業的興起,研究臺灣妖怪的專書也陸續出版,然而插畫形式單調,難以加深對妖怪的理解。 本創作認為,在資訊傳播迅速的現代,插圖比文字更具吸引力和傳遞資訊的效果。近年日本插畫交流平台上出現的「箱庭插畫」風格,強調在有限範圍內展現立體而完整的小型世界,能從不同角度看到畫中的內容。本創作認為「箱庭插畫」的完整性、立體真實感和故事性,能帶來與以往截然不同的妖怪插畫。 本創作將「箱庭插畫」的特質應用於臺灣妖怪插畫,除了研究文獻中的妖怪形象,還分析其棲息環境,一同展現在插畫中。創作過程中更是注重人類與妖怪的互動,讓故事更加生動,以此證明了妖怪與人類生活的緊密聯繫。從作品展覽的回饋中,「箱庭插畫」也被證明是優秀的故事載體,觀眾認同這種風格有別於過去的妖怪插畫藝術,甚至能不依靠文字就感受到故事性。 本創作期待通過「箱庭插畫」的應用,使臺灣妖怪插畫系列更具深度和吸引力,讓觀眾在視覺享受的同時,重新認識並珍視臺灣的妖怪文化。
Taiwan's monster legends, once dismissed as superstitions, have nearly faded from memory. Influenced mainly by Chinese and Japanese culture, local Taiwanese monster legends are often overlooked. Recently, specialized books on Taiwanese monsters have emerged, but their illustrations lack depth, limiting understanding. In today's fast-paced information age, illustrations can be more engaging and informative than text. Inspired by the "Hakoniwa Illustration" style, which creates three-dimensional, complete miniature worlds, this project aims to revitalize monster illustrations. The Hakoniwa style's realism and storytelling offer a fresh take on traditional monster art. This project uses Hakoniwa principles to create detailed Taiwanese monster illustrations, integrating literary descriptions and habitat analysis. By emphasizing human-monster interactions, the illustrations highlight their interconnectedness. Exhibition feedback confirmed Hakoniwa Illustrations as excellent storytelling mediums, appreciated for their distinct style and ability to convey stories without words. This project aims to enhance Taiwanese monster illustrations through Hakoniwa Illustrations, helping audiences rediscover and appreciate Taiwan's monster culture while enjoying a visually rich experience.
