When a disaster strikes at a crowded venue, it usually results in a mass of casualty, known as Multiple Casualty Incident (hereinafter referred to as “MCI”). How to rescue as more casualties as possible under the situation with limited time and resources? We may practice the Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment (hereinafter referred to as “START”). Nowadays, the START is the most common triage which emergency medical technicians (hereinafter referred to as “EMT”) are familiar with. Specifically, the START is the triage more suitable for blunt and contusion cases. However, the study of this paper focuses on burn and scald cases at one theme park. We may encounter some issues while applying the START directly on those cases. Accordingly, this paper finds out the key factors by case study as well as figures out the possible solutions by expert interview. Afterwards, this paper comes up with some minor modifications to the START in order to make it more perfect to burn and scald cases. As such, it would improve the EMT’s profession to response to a wide variety of MCI.
