指南車又名司南車是中華民族古代重要科技之一。指南車是指不論車架如何轉向其上指示器永遠指向一方的車子。有關指南車傳說是眾說紛紜的,根據史書有關指南車記載可考者主要有三項:第一是相傳為黃帝在與蚩尤交戰時,黃帝於涿鹿發明的,第二是為越裳氏部落向周朝朝貢,周公製其成於返途時不迷航。第三是皇帝出巡時的前導車輛。雖然這三種傳說現有史書的記載皆不可靠,但仍不減指南車對中華古科技文明及對現代機構科技的影響。 現代指南車設計與研究皆僅限於利用二個自由度的周轉輪系構造設計與指南車定向特性的運動方程式推導。本研究則根據上述理論推導為基礎,進而研究包含附隨於二個車輪之單自由度普通齒輪系與含有定向指示器的雙自由度周轉齒輪系之間的輪系值關係式,再推導二個車輪半徑、輪距、與各齒輪系輪系值的數學關係,最後利用顏氏創意機構設計理論所獲得五桿雙自由度周轉齒輪系圖譜來作為新型指南車上的雙自由度周轉齒輪系。本研究理論實用性藉由現存實例可獲得驗證,此外經由本理論應用可獲得八款新型指南車設計。
South pointing chariot was one of the important technologies of the ancient Chinese. As implied in the name, the indicator of the South pointing chariot always points at a fixed direction no matter what direction the chariot is heading for. In that way, the chariot can prevent the driver from getting lost. There are plenty of legends concerning about the South pointing chariot. According to the historical records, there are three different explanations for the original appearance of the South pointing chariot. First, the Huang emperor invented the South pointing chariot to fight against the Chin Yu in the Chu Lu area. Second, the Yueh Shang Shih devised the South pointing chariot and presented it to the Huang emperor as a tribute. Third, the South pointing chariot was the leading chariot when the Huang emperor inspected his territory. Even these three explanations are still under dispute. It can’t cut down the degree of the influence that the South pointing chariot has put on the ancient Chinese technology and mechanical devices. Recently, the most studies of the south pointing chariot design were based on the concepts of the theory of the planetary gear train to produce a fixed directional pointer. Hence, the purpose of this work is to derive the relationship among the train values of the two ordinary gear trains with single degree of freedom and one planetary gear train with two degrees of freedom. Additionally, this study would derive the relation among the wheel radius, wheel distance, and the three train vales. By applying the Yan’s methodology of mechanism design, this work obtained and applied the atlas of five bar planetary gear train to design the new south pointing chariots. The results of his work are the provide design method is feasible to design south pointing chariots and eight new south pointing chariots are founded.
