可體驗批判式設計

Experiencable Critical Design

摘要


批判式設計(Critical Design)為學者Anthony Dunne所提出之設計概念。他試圖以產品設計作為一種思維傳達的途徑,透過設計述說在科技烏托邦主義(Technological utopianism)背後人類社會未來的潛在危機,他認為相較於脫離生活的概念藝術批判式設計更貼近生活,因此更能進入觀者的腦中產生後續影響 。批判式設計不僅僅在傳達價值觀,如能被實體化成「產品」,相信創作者的概念便更能被大家所體驗。然而目前批判式設計本身的傳播與擴散的成效並非那麼彰顯,有點淪為少數設計人在思想辯論上的玩物。因此本研究試圖讓批判式設計能「被體驗」,使之更貼近觀者提升其影響力。 本研究首先探討體驗互動設計所用的設計方法與理論,並介紹國外批判式設計師們的作品案例,以做作為詮釋方式與創作技法的借鑒。最後以現成物創作(Readymades)的手法為創作主軸,輔以脈絡設計(Contextual Design)、動態語義學(Semotion)和Affordance等概念來完成「勞動者臨時休憩坐具」系列創作,當中以「挖掘工搖椅」、「油漆工滑椅」、「電工梯椅」等三件作品分別探討當今台灣社會,高工時勞動市場,諷刺的過勞現象。最終,希望透過「可體驗批判式設計」的設計精神與創作手法的鑽研,讓更多的創作者能投身批判式設計創作,讓價值觀的散播更加多元更加平等。

Critical Design, proposed by Anthony Dunne, has become a popular term in design academy nowadays. He deemed that critical design is a spreading propaganda idea rather than criticism. In fact, the difference between critical design and criticism is the mediums to convey message. The one transfer by image, and the other is by words. From my viewpoint, critical design can not only act as the media showing the public dark side of Technological Utopianism, also will be a trigger to motivate people's critical thinking. However, critical Design still has some limitations in the real world. Since most critical design projects are not "experienable", it will be hard to touch audience's mind. Hence, we recommend a new term, "Experiencable Critical Design". In this thesis, we separate it by three parts to explain what is "experiencable Critical Design". First, we refer to the history of "Design as critique" and methods from interaction design methodology, such as "Contextual Design", "Semotion" and "Affordance", and then develop our own methodology. Second, analyzing some well-known project from critical designer to know how they optimize the project experience. Third, implementing the critical design methodology by "ready-made". At the end, it has presented a series as " Napping Chairs" for labors, consisting of "Excavator Chair", " Paint Worker Chair" and "Electrician Chair". These three designs are used to argue the issue of overworking phenomenon in Taiwan society. Finally, we believe the methodology of experiencable come out from this thesis can get more designer involved in critical design to spread out more equal diversity of consciousness.
