MOBILEYE- Case study of ADAS system

According to WHO statistics, about 1.35 million people die in traffic accidents each year, and almost 50 percent of those who die on the roads are vulnerable people, such as pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists. More than 20 million to 50 million people suffer non-fatal injuries, many of them are the result of disability injuries. Next to this, about 3% of GDP is lost due to road crashes. In addition, the Virginia Institute of Technology's School of Transportation published a set of survey data in 2005 on driver habits, distractions and causes of collisions, which showed that nearly 80 percent of collisions and 65 percent of impending crashes were caused by negligence by the driver three seconds before the incident. In February 2009, a branch of a French insurance company, the AXA in Winterthur, Switzerland, conducted a study on the correlation between vehicle crashes and some accidents. They found that 1.5-second warning could prevent 90% of tail-end collisions, and 2 seconds of early warning could prevent most crashes. Therefore, if the automobile early warning system can be improved, traffic accidents should be reduced greatly. Thanks to advances in technology, the European and American countries have always put great focus on automobile safety and gradually request to add kinds of advanced driver assistance systems to improve road driving safety in recent years. In response, Amnon Shashua founded Mobileye in 1999 to harness the power of computer vision for automotive safety and to develop stable, low-cost and easy-to-import systems to accelerate the popularity of ADAS. This paper will introduce Mobileye how it succeeds and attempt to find out the key success factors of Mobileye's business model through literature study and secondary research.
