折射儀被廣泛應用在工業品管及生物及時檢測,因其快速且非破壞性之量測過程,也常被用來探討軟物質在溶液狀態下的結構特性。本研究參考文獻上提供的光路架構自行架設微差折射儀,其中包括樣品槽、樣品平台、控溫系統和光路架設。實驗方面利用已知折射指標增益 (specific refractive index increment,ν) 的氯化鉀水溶液、聚苯乙烯甲苯溶液和環己烷溶液、聚環氧乙烷水溶液進行測試以及比較不同分子量之聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯丙酮溶液對於ν的影響,其量測結果與文獻值比較都有相當的精準度。在自行架設的過程中,更能深入了解各個元件的運作以便調整及更新,以利未來量測未知系統時能藉由調整各個元件得到最佳訊號值。
Refractometer has been extensively utilized in industrial quality control and applications with biological detectionbecause because of its advantages of rapid and non-destructive measuring process. This study aims at building up a homemade differential refractometer, including designing sample cell and platform, introducing temperature control system, and setting up optical calibration procedure. In the experimental section, we use potassium chloride and polyethylene oxide in water, as well as and polystyrene in toluene or cyclohexane with known refractive index increments (ν) to calibrate the device. We also investigate with variation of ν with molecule weight of polymethyl-methacrylate in acetone. Thus, we have acquired knowledge about how to adjust and upgrade the entire optical elements so as to obtain the best signal when measuring unknown solution systems in the future.
