This study focuses on the reuse of perennial bamboo by examining its physical characteristics, microstructure, and mechanical properties to explore the feasibility of distinguishing bamboo ages and promote its application. Additionally, perennial Bambusa stenostachya, along with by-products of Bambusa stenostachya, Swietenia macrophylla, and Taiwania cryptomerioides, are used as raw materials. They are processed into wood-bamboo particle chips and mixed with cement in ratios of 30:70 and 50:50 and produced into particle cement boards. To enhance the reaction between cement and particles, 5% of sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) and 5% of calcium chloride (CaCl2) by weight of cement are added. Subsequent tests investigate the physical and mechanical properties of the particle cement boards to facilitate future applications of wood-bamboo by-products and enhance their added value. The physical and mechanical properties of the two types of particle cement boards with different bamboo ratios, along with Bambusa stenostachya by-products, mahogany, and Taiwan cedar by-products are tested. Tests include bulk density, expansion rate after water absorption, length change rate after water absorption, water absorption rate, flexural strength, and surface hardness, analyzed statistically using one-way analysis of variance. Results show significant differences in bulk density, water absorption rate, flexural strength, and surface hardness, while no significant differences are observed in expansion rate and length change rate after water absorption. When comparing Bambusa stenostachya with mahogany and Taiwan cedar by- products, Bambusa stenostachya demonstrates excellent properties, showing good hydrophobicity and mechanical strength regardless of the particle addition ratios of 30% to 70% or 50% to 50%. Thus, Bambusa stenostachya can be chosen as one of the materials for subsequent particle cement board applications.
