Taiwanese temples are ubiquitous, and under the influence of historical contexts, they exhibit a diverse range of architectural frameworks from various stylistic schools. In addition to embodying local cultural and religious characteristics, the structural components of these temples, including their appearance, proportions, and painted decorations, reflect the craftsmanship and wisdom passed down through generations of artisans. Moreover, the construction techniques feature various types of mortise and tenon joints, such as dovetail joints, straight tenons, and lap joints, which play a crucial role in the preservation of cultural heritage. This study explores the Stacked Bracket Complex, using components preserved from Xinhuei Temple at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology as a case study. Through a review of literature and related examples, the research deconstructs the mortise and tenon joinery system, simplifies the ornamental carvings, and integrates the structural logic into a systematic design model. By selecting domestically sourced Taiwanese wood, this study applies traditional timber construction elements to the creation of household products, revitalizing and transforming these architectural features to achieve cultural continuity. In the execution of this creative project, the cultural essence of timber construction observed during the academic period is further explored and transformed into a practical design concept. By selectively extracting and deconstructing architectural elements from the foremost and central sections of temple frameworks, two household products have been designed and physically crafted. These works retain the essential appearance of traditional timber joinery structures while incorporating mortise and tenon assembly methods. The goal is to strike a balance between craftsmanship and product design, integrating traditional elements into everyday life. By allowing people to experience and interact with these objects in close proximity, the project aims to introduce a broader audience to timber construction and inspire further interest in its structural and cultural significance.
