The term "wabi-sabi" originates from one of the three major aesthetics in Japan, advocating "natural imperfection" and "traces left by time." The design style formed by applying the concept of "wabi-sabi" aesthetics to space design is generally referred to as the "wabi-sabi style" in the domestic renovation market. Due to changes in market trends, the "wabi-sabi style" design has gradually become popular in the domestic renovation market in recent years. However, due to the unclear definition of the elements constituting this design style and its easy confusion with other design styles, it is difficult for relevant practitioners to capture the key points of design when executing design creation. Therefore, this study aims to formulate "design guidelines" for the "wabi-sabi style" design and attempt to conduct "design creation" for residential spaces based on these guidelines. After formulating the research guidelines through the "literature analysis method," this study selected five well-known domestic interior designers who introduced the aesthetic thinking of "wabi-sabi" in their design works. Through the "case analysis method" and "in-depth interview method," this study explores their interpretation methods of the aesthetic meaning of "wabi-sabi" in their design works, integrates the statements of the five designers to formulate "design guidelines," and applies the concepts and style elements to the "design creation" in this study. The research results found that the key points of the "wabi-sabi style" design can be mainly divided into the following three items: 1.Imperfection - Use of rough-textured building materials and imperfect shapes to create a sense of imperfection. 2.Incompletion - Appropriate blank space to create an unfinished effect, using plants that show distinct seasons. 3.Non-permanence - Use of building materials that change over time, activity-based partitions to make the space layout flexible, and the conversion of natural and artificial light to create a sense of change. iii Since "wabi-sabi" itself is a Japanese aesthetic perspective rather than a purely design style, in executing design creation, it is not only about pursuing the visual effects presented but also reflecting the philosophical ideas within, allowing these core values to guide the direction of the design so that the space's form can naturally develop. This is how one can effectively develop space design works embodying the spirit of "wabi-sabi" aesthetics.
