This creative research focuses on The Wind's Twelve Quarters, a speculative fiction collection published by Ursula K. Le Guin in 1975. Specifically, three short stories— Semley's Necklace, Darkness Box, and The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas—serve as the texts for this study. The research aims to analyze the symbolic elements within these stories and present them through creative representation. By employing intertextuality and representational techniques, the study transforms the settings, themes, and symbols from the original texts into visual forms, thereby deepening the narratives' meanings and providing readers with additional opportunities for reflection and emotional resonance through visual artworks. The creative process uses digital drawing on tablets as the primary medium, with digital prints mounted on foam boards to concretize the plotlines and atmospheres of the stories. Throughout the creative process, the research explores the fantasy and science fiction elements in The Wind's Twelve Quarters, particularly their philosophical significance and cultural symbols. These are further emphasized through visual art to enhance the stories' presentation, enabling audiences to experience more profoundly the values and philosophical ideas conveyed in the novels. This creative research is motivated by three primary factors:1.A fascination with Ursula K. Le Guin's literary works, inspired by encountering her writing.2.The scarcity of creative research works related to The Wind's Twelve Quarters.3.A desire to represent Le Guin's narrative worlds through the lens of the researcher's perspective, utilizing creative research methodologies. The study aims to achieve the following objectives:1.Address the lack of research on this book both domestically and internationally by enriching creative research related to The Wind's Twelve Quarters in different media forms.2.Analyze the application of Daoist philosophy and cultural elements in Semley's Necklace, Darkness Box, and The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas, using these as creative elements to provide reference value for future research.3.Delve into the themes and settings of these three short stories to deepen their depiction, enhance audience engagement, and provoke reflection and emotional response. This creative research investigates the artistic transformation of short stories from The Wind's Twelve Quarters into visual artworks, employing three research methods: content analysis, textual analysis, and intertextuality theory. These methods serve as the basis for the artistic creation and are applied to explore the use of Daoist philosophy in the elements of the selected short stories.
