Calcium aluminate glasses (CAG) have good optical transmittance in the middle infrared (3 – 5 μm) range and good mechanical properties. Transforming CAG into glass-ceramics could enhance its mechanical properties and may broaden its application field. In this study, effects of the addition of GeO2, SiO2, Y2O3, La2O3, Sb2O3 on ZrO2 – nucleated calcium aluminate glass-ceramic are studied.. According to the experimental results, for glass ceramic optical transmittance in visible light, adding extra Y2O3 content can obtain the maximum and adding Sb2O3 can obtain the minimum of efficiency. For glass ceramic optical transmittance in infrared , adding extra Y2O3, La2O3 or Sb2O3 content can obtain the maximum and adding GeO2 or SiO2 can obtain the minimum of efficiency. For the whole considerations, adding extra Y2O3 content has the best stability to glass-ceramics.
