This study focuses on the application and promotion of traditional Taiwanese embroidery techniques in modern higher education, exploring the integration of traditional apprenticeship teaching methods with contemporary educational approaches. It analyzes the implementation and effectiveness of innovative teaching models in university embroidery courses. In Taiwan, embroidery boasts a long history with a rich and diverse craft culture and unique traditional techniques, especially renowned in Tainan during the Qing Dynasty period. However, with the rapid development of industrialization and low-cost competition from mainland China, traditional embroidery techniques have gradually declined. This study investigates the challenges and issues faced by traditional Taiwanese embroidery through interviews with local embroidery masters in Tainan. By establishing an innovative embroidery course, it introduces traditional techniques into modern university education. The course combines action learning with the ADDIE instructional design model, inviting National Treasure embroiderers, traditional embroidery masters, machine lace experts, and cross-disciplinary artisans to participate in the teaching process, thereby providing a diverse and professional learning environment. Post-course questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were conducted to understand students' interest in embroidery techniques and their cultural identity. The findings reveal that these innovative teaching strategies not only enrich the teaching content of traditional arts but also enhance students' recognition and appreciation of intangible cultural heritage. Through collaboration between course instructors and industry experts, students have the opportunity to integrate traditional techniques with contemporary design concepts, fostering cultural innovation and diverse expression. The study successfully cultivated campus-based seed teachers, facilitating embroidery experience activities through camps and workshops in primary, secondary, and high schools. This approach embeds embroidery culture at the grassroots level, achieving widespread promotion and sustainable transmission of embroidery craftsmanship. In conclusion, this study not only contributes new academic insights to the fields of education and cultural studies but also provides practical guidance and inspiration for cultural preservation, educational innovation, and cultural industry development in society. The research demonstrates the feasibility and benefits of integrating traditional and modern educational methods, particularly in the innovation and practice of university-level embroidery courses. This can inspire more scholars and educators to focus on innovation in traditional craft education, promoting the continuous transmission and development of culture.
