When irreversible pulpal diseases such as pulp necrosis, furcation involvement,and/or fistula formationoccur in the primary dentition, endodontic treatment is commonly performed to preserve the primary teeth.Although pediatric dentists have extensively performed the endodontic treatment for the primary teeth, most of dentists still know little about the morphology of the root canal of the primary teeth. The generalknowledge about the morphology of the root canal of primary dentition is that it has thinner and morecurved roots than the permanent tooth does.In this paper,we reviewed previous studies of root canalmorphology in the primary teeth in order to provide dental clinicians a further knowledge and information, hoping that the quality of endodontic treatment for primary teeth could be improved.(Taiwan J PediatrDent 3(4):171-176,2003)
