Hypernatremia is defined as an increase in serum sodium concentration of more than 145 mmol/L, which is less common than hyponatremia. The main causes of hypernatremia are impairment of free water intake or dysregulation of urine concentration. Hypernatremiamostly occurs in the elderly, infants, and patients with poor self-care ability or critical illness. Therefore, we must search for the leading causes, treat the underlying disease and give correct fiuid therapy for management of hypernatremia.
