Anemia is one of the most common complications of chronic kidney disease; as deteriorated kidney function, the anemia became more severe and inevitable. Severe anemia would not only impair the quality of life but also increase the admission rate and mortality. The use of erythropoiesis-stimulating agents and supplemental iron are the mainstay of renal anemia. Also, there are many other factors that would result in anemia or make it worse. To improve the care of chronic kidney disease, in this article, we reviewed the Kidney Disease Outcome Quality Initiative KDOQI, Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) and European Renal Association (ERA) guidelines, and summarized the definition, assessment and treatment of renal anemia.
