In this paper, fatigue experiments were studied to find the relationship between the surface roughness change and the fatigue. The purpose was to find a possible warring signal for fatigue failure. The results show that (1) The surface roughness parameter, Rt, change obviously with the loading cycles. (2) During the first period of loading cycles, curvature of Rt valley decreases more rapidly. With increasing in loading cycles, the curvature changes slowly up to the specimen failure. (3) The Rf-factor (Valley depth/Valley radius) increases rapidly during first period of fatigue cycle and then the changes tower to slow down. The radius of curvature and the Rf-factor of surface valley provide a better rule to predict the fatigue failure.
